I first heard of Jean-Georges Vongerichten when I bought his cookbook in the late 90′s, Cooking at Home with a Four Star Chef. It wasn’t until my second trip to New York City in 2011 that I experienced one of his restaurants. This renowned chef has culinary presence all over the world, and Market is the second of his restaurants that I’ve dined.
Market is located within the very luxurious Shangri-La Hotel in downtown Vancouver, British Columbia. The decor very modern and like the hotel, very luxurious. The bar and lounge area offers an outdoor dining experience.
We dined on a Friday evening, and by the time we left there wasn’t a table available. Our service was attentive, very fitting of this fine dining establishment.
My son started with the Mozzarella, Tomato and Basil pizza. What kid doesn’t like pizza. He said it was nice because the crust wasn’t so thick.
Before our second course, our plates were cleared, silverware replaced and we enjoyed a few minutes of rest. It’s amazing how their kitchen and servers timed our meal – it was perfect at the amount of time in between each course. I didn’t feel rushed, yet didn’t feel like I was waiting. On to our next course.
And, we finished our meal with dessert. Nice portions to give us a little something sweet, but not too much to put us over the top.
When in Vancouver, this place is not to be missed. I hear that they offer a fantastic brunch – that is for sure on the list for our next trip.
